((OOC: Mind the bad spelling of the punks' dialogue. Trying to think how someone dead drunk would say their words and couldn't quite get it on paper))
Walking down the pavement, a bunch of teenage boys were slouching around, obviously drunk and out of control. The leader, a towering figure at six and a half feet, saw someone up the block. Squinting with effort, he and his goons lumbered up the sidewalk, each of them barely able to keep their feet on the ground.
As he got closer, the towering leader couldn't help but smile.
"H-hey yoou! H-heeeeey!!!" he bellowed down the street. He slurred his words into one incoherent jumble and it took all of his remaining wits just to open his mouth.
"Yo-Yooou know? Yo-ooooou know yooooou gotta paaaaa-ay", laughing as he extended his right hand, obviously expecting the figure in front of him to pay some sort of fee. ""Or something baa-aaa-aad might just happen to yooou." With that he barked out a laugh, his goons going on hysterical around him.
As they kept on laughing, the figure would slip into a nearby alley, one filled with dark shadows and easy cover. The goons scowled. No one ran away from them. Even if they were drunk, they knew when someone was trying to run away and they knew how to stop them. Permanently.
Walking into the alleys, they upturned garbage cans and shuffled through dumpsters. But the person was gone. Shaking their heads, both angry and confused, they failed to notice the two eyes spying on them in the corner, but it had disappeared long before they would notice it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Xen sighed. That was a close one. He had been walking down the block when a group of thugs tried to rob him. They were dead drunk and Xen doubted they would just stop at plain old robbery. And when it came down to it, he wasn't too confident on taking on a few thugs who were too drunk to be blinded much anyway.
He was on a ledge, suspended somewhat high from the ground below. He had shadow walked to a pretty high building with ledges that jutted out somewhat far from the building. He had chosen this spot to be a lookout of sorts. He could easily come here almost whenever he wished and it was high enough to efficiently give him a good glimpse of everything.
Sighing, he felt as if the whole world would never stop chasing him. I wonder, he thought. When will I ever be free from it all? Shaking his head, he laughed at it all. For at the end of the day, if you can't laugh back at your own life, what's the point?
At the tips of his fingertips, he slightly focused. Light quickly gathered and soon it formed a tight ball of light. Releasing its concentration, it seemed to shake itself and then bobbed and wavered around Zen's head. He smiled. It was like his own little sun. Seeing it floating around, Zen suddenly laughed a deep hearted laugh. Once that was genuine to the core. For once in his life, he felt truly at ease.
A lone figure stands underneath a lamp post. She was terribly bored not to mention annoyed. Mori hadn't seen that guy from the alley in days, and she'd searched all over the city too... Mori scowls, stuffs her ice blocks for hands into her jacket pockets and struts down the street. She was getting angrier by the day and she was training her butt off trying to get better at controlling her abilities.
Mori stops dead in her tracks, a laugh cut through the cold air. Her head shoots up and she could see a figure standing at the top of the very building she was in front of. Hoping it was him she sprints for the elevator, barely making it. She takes it to the last floor where she climbs the rest of the way. Mori stands in front of the door to the roof and bites her lower lip, a small sphere of light orbited his head as he looked down to the streets below.
Mori's heart beat like a drum in her chest, the anticipation too much for her to deal with she bursts through the door, but upon closer inspection she noticed it hadn't been who she'd hoped it had....
Zen sighed, not noticing the imminent threat that would soon befall him. Relaxing back, the ball of light continuously circled him over and over. Leaning back, he was deep in thought when suddenly...
~~WHAM!~~
The door burst open and there stood a girl, her chest heaving up and down. Even though it was late at night, he could tell there was a sort of disappointment in her face. As if she was expecting something else...
He quickly shook himself of the thoughts and the wisp whisked out next to him. Looking around quickly, he saw there was little escape besides shadow walking and he was afraid of showing that to too many people. They tended to group together and gossip when something new happens and many unlikely rumors spring from that; the sort of rumors that get all sorts of people investigating when all Zen wanted to do was rest.
Sighing, he stood up and summoned light on to his palm. Although he could see easily in the darkness, he thought it would be best for the girl standing there to have a actual face to talk to. Besides, an ominous talking voice was much more suspicious.
Holding the light up, he took the time to actually loom at her. There she stood, about 5ft. tall and her head topped with black spiky hair. But what he really noticed was three marks under her left eye. He slightly puzzled at it, but he didn't spend too much time thinking on it. Looking up at her face, he simply asked "What are you doing here?"
Mori composed herself, and faced the man in front of her. Her disappoint obviously evident in her expression. Not only was it not the man from the Underground, but she'd gotten herself into another predicament, but she didn't feel like making up some story right now so she figure it'd be best to tell the basic truth.
The man summoned light to his hand, allowing her to see him much better. This action lead her to think that he wasn't going to try an hurt her, but he could just be saving that tactic for later.
"I thought you were someone else...." Mori looks away and grumbles an apology. "I'll get out of your way..." Mori begins to turn around and head for the door, but instead turns back to him.
"What's with the light show?"
"I'll get out of your way..."
The girl had said. Zen spirit's lifted straight out and into the air. The light he was holding hummed brighter, as if mirroring his emotions. As she was turning around, heading towards the door, Zen couldn¡¯t help but think. Maybe for once, he hoped, there would be no questions asked. But, sadly she turned around and blurted
"What's with the light show?"
He sighed. It seemed curiosity won again. Everyone always wanted to know. And always he would have to lie. Lie and lie and lie until there was just no more point to it. And at that moment everything would be revealed. Labeled at a menace and forced to flee. Suddenly, Zen realized just how tired he was. How tired of lying to people and making up stuff. May be it was because he saw how easily it was here to show your powers. Or maybe it was that he really did become tired. But whatever the reason, he decided to say the truth.
Taking out his hand, which was still lighted, he focused and shaped it into an actual wisp. It took off, circle around him before heading for the girl. It would briefly examine her, as if it was a little curious dog that had picked up a new scent. It would then fly back to Zen, where it would hover above his shoulder.
"It's nothing much", Zen said. "Just a little thing I can do. Speaking of things I can do..." And with that Zen, for one of the few moments of his life, volunteering displayed his shadow powers. Flexing his other hand out, he gathered and warped the shadows around it. He felt it gather all around and as it traveled up his hand. Around his shoulder, it finally solidifies and there it protruded, a single tendril of darkness.
Looking straight at her, almost begging with his eyes, he hoped for the best.
As the sphere of light appeared in front of Mori, she jumped back in defense, and just as she relaxed and reached out to touch it, back it went to its master.
"It's nothing much. Just a little thing I can do. Speaking of things I can do..."
This time it wasn't light but darkness, it was hard to see but that's but the light sphere was for! Flexing his other hand out, he gathered and warped the shadows around it. It gathered around and it traveled up his hand. Around his shoulder, it finally solidifies and there it protruded, a single needle of shadows.
She was amazed, she'd never seen another person with powers use them so well! Mori could use her powers well, but turning trash into trees isn't so useful as being able to manipulate light and darkness.
Mori caught him looking at her, he looked tired and as if he was pleading her to do something. She slowly steps forward and nods approvingly at him. "Pretty sweet, I've never seen someone use their powers so well."
Zen took a small step back. He kept on praying and praying, hoping she would somehow accept. Stop fooling yourself, he thought bitterly. You've been chased all your life because of your powers. What makes you think here will be any different?
The girl suddenly walked closer, and Zen automatically backed up. He eyes darted around, looking for the thickest of shadows for him to find refuge in. Oh man, now she's gonna attack me! Why did I have to show her darkness too? I mean I'm pretty sure light would be fine enough.......
"Pretty sweet, I've never seen someone use their powers so well."
Oh my god, how did this all happen? I shouldn't have been so careless. I should have run away. Oh my god.....
Wait.... What was that?
Zen almost wanted to laugh. She¡she had accepted him. Not only that, she had complimented him. Praised him. He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs. Wow, he thought. Maybe this city is different after all.
Looking straight at the girl in front of him, he felt such gratitude. She was one of the few that had accepted him. Even his father had disowned him. He bowed, at the waist, and simply said "Thank you." He would straighten himself, extend his hand for a simple handshake and ask, "What's your name?"
The man bowed. He actually bowed! Mori was visibly taken aback. She had only complemented him and in return he bowed at the waist! He looked much happier than he did before and he even extended his hand for a handshake. She didn’t know much about people but she assumed he wasn’t used to the recognition. Smiling slightly, Mori walks forward and takes it. The light that cascaded over his face traveled onto hers, now both of them could see the other much more clearly. She couldn't see much thanks to the bandana that covered the lower part of his face.
She takes a few steps back as the man asked what her name was. She cooly replies. "The name's Mori, you?"
As she waits for an answer her head turns to the side. She looked up a bit more and she saw no moon. Aside from the man's light sphere and the street lights....and the lights from the buildings....the city was in complete darkness. Mori frowned, she liked the full moon more...
((Wow that last paragraph...such a fillar XD. Oh and please tell me what color his hair and eyes are, it's killing me >.<!!))
((OOC: Sorry for the short posts. Really tired. Promise to keep up the quality next time.))
Zen felt so much lighter. He couldn't believe it all. This city... it just could be the home they were looking for. A place where they just might be accepted. But here Zen found something else. He found praise. He couldn't help but smile underneath his bandana. "My name's Zen." He looked at the direction she was facing, wondering what she was looking at. Hmmm, what's so interesting?
Looking up, he didn't really see anything. Wait, he thought. That's it!
Closing his eyes, he concentrated as light formed in both his palms. Then, twirling around, he flung his hands in the air. The effect was instantaneous.
Light flew up and over both of them, twinkling there as if they were stars, completely frozen in time. There was even a silver orb there, floating in the sky. It took much of Zen's concentration to keep everything from falling. But to him it seemed worth it.
He smiled. "Pretty, isn't it?"
((OOC: His hair and eyes? The hair is dark black. The eyes are light green.))
Zen was his name, and he had made in seconds a miniature planetarium! A grin plastered on her face as she looked up at the 'moon' in awe.
"Pretty, isn't it?" Mori looks at him, he was smiling at her. Mori blinks and a slight hue of pink rises to her cheeks. Mori turns her head away, not even sure if he saw it. It was Mori's weakest apparently, a cold, anti-social person coming out of their shell....Well...it's probably any girl's weakest.
Mori looks back at the planetarium. "Yeah, it is..."
((OOC: Yes you should )) Zen looked towards Mori, and saw her there with a big grin on her face. His spirits lifted and he started playing with the effects a little. He made his "moon" a little brighter, added a little more "stars" and made the space all around it darker, making the pinprick lights seem all the more brighter. At that single moment, he actually felt proud of himself. He had used his powers in a way that he had never did before. Always they were of something of a taboo. But now? They became something of a true gift instead of a curse. And to Zen, this was all thanks to Mori. Unknowingly, from that simple moment on, Zen would protect her from anything that came her way. It may possibly have been telltale sign of love, but for now all one could tell was that it was a deep thanks that came out in a guardian sense. "Yeah, it is..."All this time while he was thinking to himself, he didn't seem to notice her (including the blush she had when she had turned to look at him). But once she spoke, Zen slowly came back to reality. He thought about a question he had wanted to ask, and finally, after several silent minutes, blurted it out. "So...do you have any special abilities?" Zen held his breath as he waited for her answer. For some invisible reason, he held his breath as he waited for her to speak.
((XP))
The moon brightens and Mori squints from the intense light cascading off it and onto her body. With the curious face of a child, Mori stands on her tippy-toes she reaches up trying to poke one. When she couldn't she pouts and runs to another one farther away from Zen. It was just close enough for her to poke. She gets on her toes again and reaches for it. She extends her finger and pokes the little ball of light.
Bad Idea...
Mori instantly puts her finger in her mouth, that little sphere was hot! Thanks to her reflexes it didn't burn her badly actually it didn't, but it still kind of hurt...
"So...do you have any special abilities?" Zen suddenly blurted out.
She looks at him with her finger still in her mouth. She blinks twice, and puts her hand down. "It's nothing much really..." She rubs the back of her head with her good hand. Mori walks to a trash can and takes the lid off. Almost gagging from the smell she takes out a glove and puts in on. She digs out a chip bag and walks back over to Zen.
Cupping the bag in both her hands a green light begins to glow through the cracks of her hands. Mori takes her top hand away, almost like a magican. Instead of a chip bag though a small tree was there. It grew and grew until in was about 2 feet tall. She commands the growing to stop and the tree grows still.
((OOC: Long post. Dont know if it's annoying. But its longer than someone else's *ahem**ahem*))
Zen couldn't help but smile at the way Mori tried reaching up to touch one of the bright spheres. She looked so much like a child pouting when she couldn't reach one. Hmm, maybe I should let her touch one, Zen thought mischievously. So she'll learn there¡¯s something other than just light there.
As Mori finally managed to touch one of the floating lights, he couldn't help but laugh as she yelped and pulled her finger backed into her mouth. She still had it there when she turned around to answer his question.
"It's nothing much really..."
As Mori went and came back from the garbage can, Zen wondered exactly what she intended to do with the useless bag. I mean, there's only so much that could be done...., his mind wandered off.
But it was all brought back into focus as Mori stood there in front of him, hands clasped around the bag. A green light emanated from her hands and when she took it away.....
There was a tree!
Zen couldn't believe it. A tree had appeared from where the useless bag was and now it was continually growing. It grew and grew until it was about two feet tall. He stared at it amazed. Wow, he thought. That's amazing, he thought. She could turn anything useless to things more than just simply useful. And he didn't just mean the bag to tree transformation.
He was so amazed, that he lost concentration for a second there. This of course caused him to lose control of their light show and leave them in darkness. Oh great, he thought. A little distraction and you mess up. How could you Zen?
Quickly summoning the light from his palms, he once again basked them in the presence of the stars and moon. Turning to Mori, his face a little red from embarrassment, he quickly hoped to draw the attention to elsewhere. "Wow," he said. "That was so cool! I've never seen something like that before..." This was actually true. He's seen plants growing out of the ground before, but from garbage? This was his first time.
"I mean, who wouldn't want to do something like that? Get rid of something bad and replace it with something good?" he said, now nervous and not exactly sure why he didn't shut up already. It was clear. I'm babbling, he thought to himself.
"Well, at least if anyone acts like a piece of trash you could populate the city with another tree," he said with a smile. Yes the joke was lame but it was all Zen could think of and sadly he never was a comedian. Giving a nervous laugh, he sighed and just resigned himself to look at the ground. I'm such a failure, Zen thought. First the lights and now the joke? Sighing, he merely kept his concentration for the lights, no longer trying to salvage whatever dignity he could.
((Shut it joke boy! XP))
Mori looks at Zen hopefully, she grinned when she saw the astounded look on his face…in his eyes, but it’s the same thing right? Suddenly darkness shrouded the two of them, Zen’s planetarium had disappeared. She instantly became confused and somewhat felt anxious. Did he just lose his concentration? Or was he too busy trying to contain his laughter.
Strangely, Mori felt small and vulnerable. Her hand that was still up in the air shot down to grip the spot where her lower arm met her upper arm, making her look meek and sheepish. If Mori was looking at herself at this very moment she would have gagged! This was so unlike her, looking for acceptance, from a guy she just met too! The real Mori, slapped herself and told her to get a grip, she was supposed to be tough! And then this guy waltzes on in and screws everything up, blinding her with his light shows!
The lights come back but Mori doesn’t acknowledge it, her hair covers her face and her hand moves back to her side, tightening into a fist. The real Mori was about to surface…and most likely ruin everything.
"Wow, that was so cool! I've never seen something like that before..."
Another prod.
"I mean, who wouldn't want to do something like that? Get rid of something bad and replace it with something good?"
Her fist tightens, some blood drips to the floor.
"Well, at least if anyone acts like a piece of trash you could populate the city with another tree," he said with a smile. Mori snapped. This guy was such a fake! And now that she could see through it she stomped her foot, commanded the tree to undersize itself so it could fit in her palm and started to storm off.
((OOC: All jokes aside....why is Mori reacting like this???)) IC:
Zen barely had time to react when Mori furiously stomped away. His head was spinning from confusion as he collected his thoughts. Look what you did now, the cynical realist side said to himself. Mind as well disappear now while you have the chance it said, with what seemed like an evil chuckle in its voice.
Zen was about to do just that when another, completely new voice popped into his head. No wait!, it said. You can't leave. She's the first to ever accept you. Just cause something went wrong doesn't change that! Now haul your hind over there and find out what's wrong!, it seemed to shout in his mind. And, for some reason that remains unknown, Zen thought it would be bright to follow that second voice.
"Hey, wait!" he shouted, catching up to her. "Mori what's wrong?" he asked with full concern in his voice. What did I do wrong now?, he silently added.
He tried to reach for her hand, to turn her to face him when he noticed blood on the floor. His face filled with horror when he realized it came from her hand. "Oh my god, Mori! Your hand! It's bleeding!" he said, obviously shocked and still oblivious that he was the cause of it all. "Do you need to go to the hospital?" He was genuinely concerned about her well being. Especially when all of sudden she's bleeding and seemingly pissed at him.
((OOC: No Zen's not crazy..(yet) Just some inner dialogue to play around with.))
