Whether it is part of her plant based powers or merely a mark of insanity, Kiya can converse with plants, having full blown conversations with them, laughing and joking as she would with a human. Many passers by have found this to be somewhat disturbing often making remarks about her, this has caused Kiya to become somewhat of a recluse, preferring to hide away in secluded areas with very few people for fear of being taunted. Her behavior is girlish, when she is happy, she will squeal and laugh like a young child, but she is happiest when tending to plants. She tends to spout a load of nonsense sometimes, her words mostly incoherent; she also has a tendency to rhyme a lot when she is nervous hugging herself to try and make sense of everything that is going on around her to little avail. Because of Kiya’s lack of understanding she has often found herself in problematic situations, causing some property damage in the past and injury to many people without meaning to, because of her fragile state of mind she can sometimes find it hard to deal with normal human emotions and lashes out, using her powers as a means of venting her obvious frustrations.
Kiya was not always mentally troubled; there was a time when she was happy and behaved like any other teenage girl. She was raised by her grandmother, her mother having dropped her off one day and never returning to pick up her up, this bothered Kiya greatly for some time feeling that she must have been a great burden for her mother to up and leave her in such a manner, but her grandmothers ever loving nature cured her of those fears in time and she began to believe that it was not her fault. She had noticed that her grandmother seemed to have a way with plants, always seeming to be able to revive any that were dying regardless of what the problem was, and this intrigued her but she never asked her grandmother how she was able to achieve these miracles, until the day she realised she also had the gift for healing plants, and much more besides.
Her grandmother began nurturing Kiya’s gift as she had so many of the plants in her garden, teaching her to help them grown and control them to move wayward vines that were in the way and remove weeds without pulling them up, ensuring the extraction of the root. Sadly Kiya’s grandmother died, leaving her distraught and unable to cope, her father, who had been absent throughout her life turned up wanting to take custody of her but Kiya in a bitter rage and confusion attacked him with her powers causing him serious injury in the process. She ran away after that, living on the streets of Jump City for a time before making her residence in the park, a place she felt safe, the only place she could ever feel safe, for it reminded her so much of her attachment for her grandmother. With little to no contact with humans,. Kiya nurtured her insanity, letting it grow out of control.
